The only Shoah survivor of his nuclear family, Dr. Rubin dedicated his life to Torah and ma'asim tovim. He carried on his family's legacy of Yiddishkeit by raising his 3 children and 11 grandchildren, by reaching thousands of students in his years as a teacher of Hebrew and Jewish studies, and then as a sociology professor at Cleveland State U, and through his writings, including Satmar: an Island in the City. His work focused on a topic our community continues to grapple with: how ethnic and religious  communities can maintain their values while being good citizens in a culturally pluralistic society.
